Join Tim Appleton and the Wild Rutland team for a guided walk in Burley Woods, our safaris are a semi strenous walk with regular pauses including a light breakfast stop. You'll need a reasonable level of fitness and be able to cope with uneven, wet and often slippy ground. On wet days, wellies are a necessity.

An afternoon walk to see the Ancient & Veteren trees of Burley Wood. A chance to explore the history of some of the oldest trees in Leicestershire and Rutland.
Join the Wild Rutland team for a walk through Burley Wood to visit and identify just some of our magnificent veteran and anciet trees, amongst many others. Plenty more wildlfe to see, from plants, birds, insects and mammals. a light afternoon tea will be provided. You'll need a reasonable level of fitness and be able to cope with uneven, wet and often slippy ground. On wet days, wellies are a necessity.

Spend a relaxed morning discovering Wild Rutland's landscape, learning to observe and sketch directly from nature. Guided by artist Maria Merridan, you'll explore simple drawing techniques that capture light, texture and form outdoors. No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a love of the natural world.
Practical Details: Clipboards and basic sketching materials are provided, though participants are encouraged to bring portable seats and their own sketchbooks and preferred media. We will cover up to 2-3km on mixed terrain - please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions.

A full day of creative exploration connecting art and landscape. Guided by artist Maria Merridan, discover how gesture, movement and mark-making can express the character of place. Working outdoors with both natural and traditional art materials, participants will begin a concertina sketchbook that can be extended after the workshop — a continuing record of the land and your creative response to it. Open to beginners and experienced artists alike with an open mind for experimentation.
Practical details: We will walk up to 3km over uneven ground and spend much of the day outdoors, with some shelter provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a portable seat and any favourite drawing materials in addition to those supplied. Please dress for the weather and bring layers and sturdy footwear.

An afternoon of all things Osprey, with the chance to view and photograph site B, the original nesting site of Osprey in England.
Join the Wild Rutland team for a guided session through Burley Woods, and out to our viewing point of Site B, photography will be permitted and chicks will be fledging.

Explore Burley Wood at night, with the chance to view the once common sight of female glow worms twinkling in the moonlight to attract a mate.
Wild Rutland hosts a significant portion of the Leicestershire and Rutland population, working with other stakeholders to increase these mystical creatures.
Whilst the majority of this trip is on good paths, this activity will be at night and so there are risks involved. sensible footware and warm clothing recommended.
